Overview

Clio is a legal practice management platform claiming over 150,000 users worldwide. It brings together file and contact management, calendar, time and disbursement tracking, hourly, fixed and outcome billing, online payments and a secure client portal. The European grid displayed by the publisher starts at €69 per user per month for Standard, then €89 for Premium, €109 for Pro (with Clio Draft included) and €129 for Expand (Clio Draft and Clio Grow included), in annual billing. Add-on modules are billed separately, between €39 and €49 per user per month based on the option. A free 7-day trial is offered without commitment.

Clio offers no French version: the European site, interface and support are in English, and the publisher's region selector covers only Australia, Canada, Ireland, UK and US. The product is thus built for common-law jurisdictions, with e-filing to US courts and client accounting modeled on Anglo-Saxon rules: the accounting obligations of a French law firm, starting with fund handling through CARPA, are not covered. Clio highlights over 300 integrations (Outlook, Gmail, Xero, Zoom notably), a Developer Hub with public API, unlimited document storage and five-day-a-week support. Per-user cost climbs quickly for a small firm once add-on modules are factored in.

Our verdict

Best for French-speaking law firms working in English or with a UK or Ireland presence who want complete management software with a public pricing grid in euros. Not for a typical French law firm: no French interface, no CARPA-compliant accounting or local filing support.

What drives the bill up

La facturation est par utilisateur et par mois, en paiement annuel sur la grille affichée. Le point qui change le budget d'un cabinet est le périmètre des plans hauts : Clio Draft, le module de rédaction automatisée, est compris à partir du plan Pro, et Clio Grow, la partie acquisition de clients, à partir du plan Expand. Acheter ces modules séparément par-dessus un plan bas revient plus cher que de monter de palier. Les paiements en ligne sont facturés à part, en pourcentage de la transaction.
