Kestra
Open-source orchestrator with 1,900+ plugins to build data, AI, and infrastructure workflows in declarative YAML without framework learning
Overview
Kestra is an open-source orchestration platform (Apache 2.0 license) for data, AI, and infrastructure workflows, built around a declarative YAML approach that simplifies versioning in source control and cross-team collaboration. The platform includes 1,900+ plugins enabling connection to cloud services, data tools, infrastructure systems, and SaaS applications without custom integration code, supporting cron schedules, webhooks/events, and real-time triggers in a unified engine. Kestra is language-agnostic: executes tasks in Python, Bash, Node.js, Go, or containerized environments, avoiding vendor lock-in and reducing refactoring. The self-hosted open-source edition remains free and unlimited for production; managed Kestra Cloud is available pay-as-you-go without public pricing displayed; an Enterprise edition (on request) adds LDAP, SCIM, custom RBAC, audit logs, worker groups, high concurrency, Enterprise plugins, and AI Copilot.
Kestra does not provide a French-language interface and remains English-oriented. The platform offers a REST API for automation and supports multiple deployment models (managed cloud, self-hosted on Docker/Kubernetes, air-gapped enterprise). The declarative YAML approach simplifies collaboration and auditing, but requires good understanding of workflow concepts and modern containerized ecosystems. For self-hosting, basic DevOps competency is needed; for Kestra Cloud, the pay-as-you-go model lacks pricing transparency, requiring a quote request to understand actual costs. The major strength is execution freedom (Python, Bash, Go, Docker) and free open-source access avoiding vendor lock-in.
Our verdict
Best for teams with DevOps/infrastructure expertise seeking declarative open-source orchestration with versioning, multi-language execution flexibility, and extensive plugins. Not for you if you lack infrastructure competency for self-hosting or seek simple cloud-managed solution: Kestra demands either DevOps mastery or a custom quote for managed cloud.
