Sononym

Sound design tool to organize, search and discover sound effects in your personal library through machine learning

3D & video games

Overview

Sononym is a sound effects management and discovery tool that uses machine learning and audio feature extraction to make personal sample collections fully searchable and explorable by similarity. Unlike classic audio tools, Sononym is not an effects plugin or synthesizer: it is a sample browser that accepts any sound as input and finds relevant sounds in your library based on their acoustic characteristics (timbre, spectrum, harmony). The pricing model is simple and unique: a perpetual license at EUR 89 (or USD 99) with no subscription fees, usable across multiple machines without limit.

Sononym integrates native cloud sync with Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud and OneDrive to access your samples from anywhere. The tool does not offer a French interface and remains English only. The main strength for sound designers is that you are never locked into monthly subscriptions: the perpetual license is the preferred option for professionals who shy away from recurring fees. The main weakness is the absence of a public API or integrations with DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations) like Ableton or Logic: Sononym remains a standalone management tool and cannot be called from your automated music production.

Our verdict

Best for sound designers, composers and producers managing thousands of sound samples who want a more intuitive alternative to file folders or heavy management plugins. Not for you if you work primarily with sounds from online sites (Freesound, Epidemic Sound): Sononym is first for those who already own a substantial personal library to explore.
